#PopeFrancis to #Priests "...share the Baptism of the Spirit ” World Retreat and Holy Mass Video/Text

Pope Francis takes part in the World Retreat of Priests leading the afternoon Meditation. -
(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis might add a visit to Kenya to his African trip in November, and protecting the environment is an issue which should bring together believers of all traditions and non-believers alike. These were some of the things learned during a two-hour meeting Pope Francis held with priests in Rome’s Papal Basilica of St. John Lateran. The Cathedral church is this week hosting an International retreat for priests, organized by International Catholic Charismatic Renewal Services and the Catholic Fraternity. Pope Francis confirmed he will visit the Central African Republic and Uganda during his November trip, but said adding Kenya to the journey was “possible but not sure” because of organizational problems. The spiritual retreat beings together bishops, priests, and celibate deacons from around the world under the theme "Called to Holiness for a New Evangelization".
Pope Francis gave off-the-cuff remarks in Spanish, and began by speaking about the importance of unity in the Church, even saying if a priest has a problem with his bishop, he should tell him to his face, “like men”, adding the same goes for a bishop with a problem with one of his priests. “There are quarrels and arguments in the Church? Well, it makes good news! This is so since the beginning,” the Pope said. “A church without quarrels is a dead church. Do you know where there aren’t any quarrels? In cemeteries!”
Pope Francis then made a special mention of the women working in the Church, remembering that on the day of the descent of the Holy Spirit, women were there.
He called the genius of women in the Church “a grace”, and pointed out the Church is feminine. “The Church is the bride of Christ, and the Mother of the Holy People, the faithful of God” said the Pope. “I would like to thank the women for their cooperation, and do not forget that when you are confronted with certain feminist grievances, there is just one thing to say: Mary is more important than the Apostles.” Pope Francis reminded the priests not to be too tired to visit the Tabernacle, where they will “find Love,” even when they do not know what to say to Him. He also asked them to begin writing their homilies on Tuesday, and to be wary of moralizing, was opposed to preaching the Gospel. He said that when faced with a difficult question, especially when related to mercy, priests should ask themselves "what would Jesus do here?" He jokingly added that if they forgive too much, then they can blame Jesus, who “gave the bad example.” He reminded them a priest does not have the right to not baptize a baby born of a single mother, or whose parents have been divorced and re-married. The Pope also spoke about his experience of the Charismatic movement, saying that when he first encountered it, he thought they were “not right in the head”, but as he grew older he saw how wrong he was. “I ask all of you, each of you, that as part of the stream of grace of the Charismatic Renewal planning seminars of life in the Spirit, in your parishes, in your seminaries and schools … share the Baptism of the Spirit and your catechesis, because it is produced by the work Holy Spirit through a personal encounter with Jesus, which changes lives.”
Pope Francis also warned against clericalism, saying that laypeople need to work in the Church but they should not be clericalized. He added clericalism is like “a tango”: It is danced by two people, with complicity.
“The priest and the layman alike clericalize,” he said. “Because it is more comfortable. Be attentive to the comfortable sin of clericalism.”
The Holy Father also remembered Christians being persecuted for their faith, and spoke about the Ecumenism of blood, saying Christians are united through martyrs who died for faith in the same Christ. “Look at the martyrs of today,” said the Pope. “Look at the blood of men and women who die for Jesus Christ and those who kill them know they are the same, having one thing in common: they believe in Jesus!” After his reflection, the Pope answered questions by some of the priests present. When asked about Africa, Pope Francis not only confirmed his trip in November, but added the rest of the world must stop going to Africa to “strip and steal” resources, but to invest in the continent, and this would end the need of people to emigrate.
When asked about Asia, the Pope said it had “the biggest promise of the Church”, but mentioning it also suffers from problems like consumerism and materialism. The Pope also confirmed a Catholic, an Orthodox Chrisitan, and an atheist will present his encyclical on the environment because “we need unity to protect creation.”

Religious Leaders in #Australia call #Government to uphold Marriage of Man and Woman

Australian Religious Leaders Call On PM And Parliament to Uphold True Meaning of Marriage

Catholic Communications, Sydney Archdiocese,
9 Jun 2015
Thirty-eight of Australia's religious leaders, representing major religious traditions and a broad diversity of faiths and cultures, have written a public letter to the Prime Minister, Tony Abbott, urging him to resist attempts in Federal Parliament to redefine the meaning of marriage.
"As leaders of Australia's major religions we write to express the grave concerns that we, and those who share our various faiths, share regarding Bills that have or will be introduced into the Federal Parliament to change the definition of marriage in Australian law," the statement said.
"The definition of marriage enshrined in the Commonwealth Marriage Act 1961 - "the union of a man and a woman, to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life" - reflects a truth deeply embedded across diverse communities, faiths and cultures."
The 38 signatories to the letter include the Catholic and Anglican Archbishops of Sydney, a bishop of the Lutheran Church, bishops from various Eastern and Orthodox Churches, Christian pastors representing major Protestant denominations, senior rabbis from the Jewish community and leaders from both the Sunni and Shia Islamic communities.
While suffering and injustice faced by people with same-sex attraction was to be "deplored", "this does not require the further deconstruction of marriage as traditionally understood", the leaders said.
The religious leaders pointed out that Australia's definition of marriage as a union of a man and a woman is shared by the vast majority of nations and cultures, who represent over 91 per cent of the global population. They emphasised the need to uphold traditional marriage for the good of children:  "as a couple, two persons of the same sex are not able to provide a child with the experience of both mothering and fathering. Only the institution of marriage between a man and a woman has this inherent capacity to provide children with both of these relationships that are so foundational to our human identity and development."
The statement pointed out that redefining marriage would have consequences for everyone:  "In overseas jurisdictions where the definition of marriage has been changed, the public manifestation of this belief has resulted in vilification and legal punishment of individuals and institutions.  This violates not only freedom of religion, but also the rights of conscience, belief and association, and the right of parents to educate their children according to their own beliefs."

Today's Mass Readings and Video : Fri. June 12, 2015 - #SacredHeart Solemnity

Solemnity of Most Sacred Heart of Jesus
Lectionary: 171

Reading 1HOS 11:1, 3-4, 8C-9

Thus says the LORD:
When Israel was a child I loved him,
out of Egypt I called my son.
Yet it was I who taught Ephraim to walk,
who took them in my arms;
I drew them with human cords,
with bands of love;
I fostered them like one
who raises an infant to his cheeks;
Yet, though I stooped to feed my child,
they did not know that I was their healer.

My heart is overwhelmed,
my pity is stirred.
I will not give vent to my blazing anger,
I will not destroy Ephraim again;
For I am God and not a man,
the Holy One present among you;
I will not let the flames consume you.

Responsorial PsalmIS 12:2-3, 4, 5-6

R. (3) You will draw water joyfully from the springs of salvation.
God indeed is my savior;
I am confident and unafraid.
My strength and my courage is the LORD,
and he has been my savior.
With joy you will draw water
at the fountain of salvation.
R. You will draw water joyfully from the springs of salvation.
Give thanks to the LORD, acclaim his name;
among the nations make known his deeds,
proclaim how exalted is his name.
R. You will draw water joyfully from the springs of salvation.
Sing praise to the LORD for his glorious achievement;
let this be known throughout all the earth.
Shout with exultation, O city of Zion,
for great in your midst
is the Holy One of Israel!
R. You will draw water joyfully from the springs of salvation.

Reading 2EPH 3:8-12, 14-19

Brothers and sisters:
To me, the very least of all the holy ones, this grace was given,
to preach to the Gentiles the inscrutable riches of Christ,
and to bring to light for all what is the plan of the mystery
hidden from ages past in God who created all things,
so that the manifold wisdom of God
might now be made known through the church
to the principalities and authorities in the heavens.
This was according to the eternal purpose
that he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord,
in whom we have boldness of speech
and confidence of access through faith in him.

For this reason I kneel before the Father,
from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named,
that he may grant you in accord with the riches of his glory
to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in the inner self,
and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith;
that you, rooted and grounded in love,
may have strength to comprehend with all the holy ones
what is the breadth and length and height and depth,
and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge,
so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

AlleluiaMT 11:29AB

R. Alleluia, alleluia.
Take my yoke upon you, says the Lord;
and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Or1 JN 4:10B

R. Alleluia, alleluia.
God first loved us
and sent his Son as expiation for our sins.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.

GospelJN 19:31-37

Since it was preparation day,
in order that the bodies might not remain on the cross on the sabbath,
for the sabbath day of that week was a solemn one,
the Jews asked Pilate that their legs be broken
and they be taken down.
So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first
and then of the other one who was crucified with Jesus.
But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead,
they did not break his legs,
but one soldier thrust his lance into his side,
and immediately blood and water flowed out.
An eyewitness has testified, and his testimony is true;
he knows that he is speaking the truth,
so that you also may come to believe.
For this happened so that the Scripture passage might be fulfilled:
Not a bone of it will be broken.
And again another passage says:
They will look upon him whom they have pierced.

Pope Receives Polish Prime Minister: Efficient Cooperation for Pope's Visit
Vatican City, 12 June 2015 (VIS) - This morning, Pope Francis received in audience the President of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Poland, Ms. Ewa Kopacz, who subsequently met with Archbishop Paul R. Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States.
During the course of the cordial discussions, the serene and efficient cooperation in preparation of His Holiness?s planned visit to Poland in 2016 for the occasion of World Youth Day was appreciated. The positive contribution of the Church in Poland in the current socio-economic context was then discussed, as well as some ethical issues.
As the conversation continued, there was an exchange of views on the international situation, with particular emphasis given to the Ukraine.
Pope Receives Airport Chaplains
Vatican City, 12 June 2015 (VIS) This morning Pope Francis received the participants of the International Seminar of Catholic Civil Aviation Chaplains and Chaplaincy organized by the Pontifical Council for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant Peoples on the theme Evangelii gaudium: What Support for the Pastoral Care of Airport Chaplaincy
Airports, Pope Francis recalled are meeting places for many people who are travelling for many reasons. They are also points of transit for migrants and refugees, children and the elderly, who need special care and attention, as well as those who work there every day. ?We also have to note,? the pontiff emphasized, the troubling number of passengers without documents ? often refugees and asylum seekers ? who are detained in airport premises for long or short periods, sometimes without adequate spiritual and human assistance. Sometimes tragic situations occur due to, for example, accidents or hijacking, with serious consequences for the safety and the psychological status of persons. In these circumstances too, Chaplains are called upon and sought after by those who need comfort and encouragement.
Given its characteristics, airport chaplaincy is called to be ?a place of unity in diversity for all categories of persons. Airports seem cities within cities, where multiple realities intertwine and overlap. As a big city, the airport is a cosmopolitan, multi-ethnic, and multi-religious environment and you, chaplains and members of the chaplaincy, you are immersed in the life of this unique community. Therefore, it is important to work meekly and to be more attuned to the Holy Spirit who creates unity in diversity.?
The Holy Father concluded his brief speech inviting the chaplains to work to ensure that those special ?border? positions that airports constitute have ?space for finding and practicing love and dialogue, which nourishes fraternity between persons and preserves a peaceful social climate. I pray together with you that the Lord make your apostolate, which participates in the Church's universal mission, an effective proclamation of the Good News.

What is the Sacred Heart of Jesus - Solemnity - Novena - Litany - Prayers - SHARE

TODAY, June 12, 2015, is the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus has been evident for many centuries under different forms. However, Margaret Mary Alacoque (1647-1690), a Visitation Nun of the monastery of Paray-le-Monial, France received visions of the Sacred Heart and spread its devotion with this feast. Jesus appeared asking for a devotion of expiatory  love and frequent Communion, Communion on the First Friday of the month, and the observance of the Holy Hour.

In 1856, Pope Pius IX extended the feast of the Sacred Heart to the universal Church. On 11 June, 1899, by order of Pope Leo XIII, all peoples were solemnly consecrated to the Sacred Heart. It is annually celebrated on the Friday 19 days after Pentecost.
12 Promises of Jesus given in the Vision

1. I will give them graces necessary for their state in life.
2. I will give peace in their families.
3. I will console them in all their troubles.
4. They shall find in My Heart an assured refuge during life and especially at the hour of death.
5. I will pour abundant blessings on all their undertakings.
6. Sinners shall find in My Heart the source and infinite ocean of mercy.
7. Tepid souls shall become fervent.
8. Fervent souls shall speedily rise to great perfection.
9. I will bless the homes in which the image of My Sacred Heart shall be exposed and honored.
10. I will give to priests the power to touch the most hardened hearts.
11. Those who propagate this devotion shall have their name written in My Heart, and it shall never be effaced.
12. I promise thee in the excess of the mercy of My Heart, that its all-powerful Love will grant to all those who shall receive Communion on the First Friday of Nine consecutive months the grace of final repentance; they shall not die under My displeasure, nor without receiving the Sacraments; My Heart shall be their assured refuge at that last hour.

CONSECRATION TO THE SACRED HEART
FOR INDIVIDUAL FAMILIES

Lord Jesus Christ, we consecrate ourselves to You today, each one of us, and all of us together as a family. Your Sacred Heart, the heart of your crucified and risen Body, is the ever living source of mercy and grace, hope and love for all of us. We desire to pledge ourselves and our lives to You in return.

Teach us to be always united with You, through Your Holy Spirit in mind and heart, in all our thoughts, words, deeds, joy and sufferings. Grant that we may ever know You more clearly, love You more dearly, and follow You more nearly.

We wish to share in Your redeeming work in our world: that your Father's will may truly be done on earth as it is in heaven, that the civilization of justice and love may thus be built up in our land.

Heart of Jesus, help us to keep sin away from our lives. Help us to keep loving, serving and forgiving each other. Live in our hearts and in our homes always, Make us wholly Yours.

With Your Mother's Immaculate Heart, we renew our consecration to Your Sacred Heart, for the ever greater glory of the Father in Heaven, Amen.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph, be with us and bless us now and at the hour of our death, Amen.

Padre Pio's Sacred Heart Novena

This powerful prayer was recited every day by Padre Pio for all those who recommended themselves to his prayers:

I. O my Jesus, You said "verily I say to You, ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and it shall be opened to you", behold I knock, I seek and I ask for the grace of...

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be to the Father. Sacred Heart of Jesus I put all my trust in Thee.

II. O my Jesus, You said, "verily I say to You, whatsoever you shall ask the Father in My name, He will give it to you", behold in your name I ask the Father for the grace of...

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be to the Father. Sacred Heart of Jesus I put all my trust in Thee.

III. O my Jesus, You said, "verily I say to You, heaven and earth shall pass away but My words shall not pass away", behold I encouraged by your infallible words, now ask for the grace of...

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be to the Father. Sacred Heart of Jesus I put all my trust in Thee.

O sacred Heart of Jesus, to whom one thing alone is impossible, namely, not to have compassion on the afflicted, have pity on us miserable sinners and grant us the grace which we ask of Thee through the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, your and our tender Mother.

Say the Salve Regina (Hail Holy Queen) and add, St. Joseph, foster father of Jesus, pray for us

Saint June 12 : St. John of Sahagun : Hermit : Patron of #Spain

St. John of Sahagun
HERMIT
Feast: June 12

     Information:
Feast Day:June 12
Born:1419, Sahagún, Province of Leon, Kingdom of Castile, Spain
Died:June 11, 1479, Salamanca, Province of Salamanca, Kingdom of Castile, Spain
Canonized:October 16, 1690, Rome by Pope Alexander VIII
Patron of:Salamanca, Spain
Hermit, b. 1419, at Sahagún (or San Fagondez) in the Kingdom of Leon, in Spain; d. 11 June, 1479, at Salamanca; feast 12 June. In art he is represented holding a chalice and host surrounded by rays of light. John, the oldest of seven children, was born of pious and respected parents, John Gonzalez de Castrillo and Sancia Martinez. He received his first education from the Benedictines of his native place. According to the custom of the times, his father procured for him the benefice of the neighbouring parish Dornillos, but this caused John many qualms of conscience. He was later introduced to Alfonso  de Cartagena, Bishop of Burgos (1435-1456) who took a fancy to the bright, high-spirited boy, had him educated at his own residence, gave him several prebends, ordained him priest in 1445, and made him canon at the cathedral. Out of conscientious respect for the laws of the Church, John resigned all and retained only the chaplaincy of St. Agatha, where he laboured zealously for the salvation of souls.

Finding that a more thorough knowledge of theology would be beneficial, he obtained permission to enter the University of Salamanca, made a four years' course, and merited his degree in divinity. During this time he exercised the sacred ministry at the chapel of the College of St. Bartholomew (parish of St. Sebastian), and held the position for nine years. He was then obliged to undergo an operation for stone, and during his illness vowed that if his life were spared, he would become a religious. On his recovery in 1463, he applied for admission to the Order of Hermits of St. Augustine, at the church of St. Peter, at Salamanca, and on 28 Aug., 1464, he made his profession.

He made such progress in religious perfection that he was soon appointed master of novices, and in 1471 prior of the community. Great was his devotion to the Blessed Sacrament, and at Mass he frequently saw the Sacred Host resplendent in glory. He was gifted with special power to penetrate the secrets of conscience, so that it was not easy to deceive him, and sinners were almost forced to make good confessions; he obtained wonderful results in doing away with enmities and feuds. In his sermons he, like another St. John the Baptist, fearlessly preached the word of God and scourged the crimes and vices of the day, though thereby the rich and noble were offended. He soon made many enemies, who even hired assassins, but these, awed by the serenity and angelic sweetness of his countenance, lost courage. Some women of Salamanca, embittered by the saint's strong sermon against extravagance in dress, openly insulted him in the streets and pelted him with stones until stopped by a patrol of guards. His scathing words on impurity produced salutary effects in a certain nobleman who had been living in open concubinage, but the woman swore vengeance, and it was popularly believed that she caused the saint's death by poison (this statement is found only in later biographies). Soon after death his veneration spread in Spain.
The process of beatification began in 1525, and in 1601 he was declared Blessed. New miracles were wrought at his intercession, and on 16 Oct., 1690, Alexander VIII entered his name in the list of canonized saints. Benedict XIII fixed his feast for 12 June. His relics are found in Spain, Belgium, and Peru. His life written by John of Seville towards the end of the fifteenth century with additions in 1605 and 1619, is used by the Bollandists in "Acta SS.", Jun., III, 112.
